Goethe-Institut Santa Cruz in Bolivia
What does Bolivia sound like? On my journey through the country, I entered into a dialogue from Santa Cruz, collecting field recordings of people, plants, microbus sounds or animal sounds such as monkeys in the jungle of the Amazon basin. I have captured everyday sounds, chance encounters, ordinary and unique listening experiences and site-specific acoustic spheres to share with others in a sound installation.
Geographically, Santa Cruz is roughly in the middle of the country. The Goethe-Institut is the geographical centre and functions as an acoustic compass in the sound installation. Four sound sources, like an interface between city and country, therefore correspond with the points of the compass, locate the geographical place and reflect, like an acoustic memory, the impressions I gathered during my journey through Bolivia.
